Born in Udine, Italy, Ottaviano Cristofoli has graced stages all over the world as an orchestra player and as a soloist/recitalist.
After completing his degrees at the “J. Tomadini” Conservatory in Udine, he joined the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole as a member of the Youth Italian Orchestra. He then joined the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival Orchestra in Germany. He further continued his studies privately in the USA. Cristofoli moved to Japan in 2008 after being appointed as the Co-Principal Trumpet of the Hyogo Performing Arts Center Orchestra, under artistic director Yutaka Sado. In 2009, he became a member of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra and currently holds the position of Solo Trumpet. Cristofoli has served as a Guest Principal in such distinguished orchestras worldwide as the Philadelphia Orchestra, Japan National Orchestra, Seoul Philharmonic, Orchestra del Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Orchestra del Teatro La Fenice, Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, and Orchestra Sinfonica di Milano Giuseppe Verdi, to name a few.
As a soloist, Cristofoli has released multiple albums, including the latest, “Seasons,” composed by Mario Corvini and based on Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. He has appeared as a soloist with multiple orchestras in Japan, Korea, China, and Italy.
He is also a member of “Samurai Brass,” a fusion brass ensemble that consists of top commercial and classical brass musicians of Japan.
Passionate about education, Cristofoli has been invited to teach as a guest lecturer at Japan University of Arts (Japan) and The Juilliard School in Tianjin (China).
He is the founder and artistic director of “Music System Japan/Italy,” an academy created to inspire younger generations from all over the world.
